Hardware
In 2005, we decided to build up an own gaming rig mobilized by the idea to have an own game server for all the games we like to play ( Ravenshield, Battlefield 2, others) and of course the possibility to host the website, album and the forum, we decided to rent or buy a server. Renting a server for Battlefield 2 was very expensive, and so we checked out, how we can finance the whole stuff we needed. We found out pretty fast that it is more beneficial to have an own server. We collected money, bought the hardware and The N Man built it up.
In the meantime we also had hardware trouble. In spring 2006 one of our hard disks broke and we decided to buy new ones. We replaced to old RAID set with new Raptors ( 70 GB, 10.000 RPM, 16MB Cache ). Big performance boost!
Hosting
Next step was to find a suitable and cheap location to place the server in. We found a proper colocation hostting in Schiphol near Amsterdam. Since then our server - called Victoria - has had its home there. In November 2006, Victoria moved to a new home, location Capelle aan de Ijsel. Reason of this that our hoster decided to get a new contract with another datacenter.
A good choice?
Victoria is a really nice item we have, very useful for our clanactivities, we placed our whole internet presence on it. Latest invention is the Crazy Redhawk Clan Point of Existence gaming server with own ranking system (Battlefield 2-Mod). We hope that some people might find their way from Battlefield 2-vanilla to our nice PoE-server.
Of course we got still a RavenShield / Athena Sword server running, we have our website there, our forum, album and still enough space for other thing that might come up in the future.
